Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities and Areas of Accountability:
  • Review estimate, contract and contract documents (drawings, specifications, addenda, etc.) to become familiar with project.
  • Prepare erection drawings and details in general conformance with the contract documents and in accordance with our contract.
  • Develop and detail project to reduce costs to PDM, owner and/or erector
  • Order embed plates and loose material well before it is required so material can be fabricated, assembled and delivered.
  • Work with project engineers during development of erection drawings and details.
  • Assist other project coordinators when they have schedule conflicts.
  • Work closely with project manager/engineer to solve casting and field problems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Compare actual project being drawn with estimate and alert project manager/engineer and estimator of quantity or material deviations.
  • In conjunction with project manager/engineer, act as a liaison between PDM and contractor, owner and erector.
  • Monitor production and progress at the job site as appropriate.
  • Work with the production scheduler on pre-pour production meetings when project complexity dictates.
  • Discuss production of non-typical products with plant management prior to casting. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external engineers, architects and contractors as required or requested.

Education / Experience / Certifications:

  • Education: 4 year Engineering degree (Mechanical, Civil, Architectural, Construction).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Ability to use Revit 2023 (or later), including utilizing ribbons and tool palettes.
  • Ability to quickly learn/operate custom Revit programs.
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft office including (Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel) and Windows operating systems.
  • Basic knowledge of Bluebeam Revu.
  • Experience: 4 years of post-degree Revit experience with precast detailing firm or precast producer.

Alaska Precast Solutions (APS) is pioneering the state's construction industry as Alaska's first prestressed, precast hollowcore concrete manufacturer. Our mission is to revolutionize building practices across Alaska by providing high-performance concrete products tailored for rapid construction and exceptional durability. Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Nikiski is currently under development, with production slated to begin in 2026. The person in this role can reside anywhere between the Matanuska Valley and the Kenai Peninsula as work may be performed either remotely, at our headquarters in Palmer, or at our new plant in Nikiski.

Job Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Precast Structural Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing precast concrete elements, including hollowcore planks, panels, beams, and columns, on a project-by-project basis. This role involves close collaboration with engineering teams on behalf of APS, creating detailed designs, and transferring "piece data" to our production team to facilitate project scheduling and manufacturing.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design and analyze precast concrete elements on a project-by-project basis, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Develop and validate structural calculations and connection designs for precast components.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including drafting, project management, sales, estimating, production, and erection, throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Communicate effectively with external stakeholders, such as structural engineers of record and architects, to ensure design alignment and project success.
  • Prepare and organize detailed technical calculation reports and documentation for each project.
  • Assist the production department with technical inquiries and provide solutions to design-related issues.
  • Conduct site visits to perform field reports, ensuring proper installation and adherence to design specifications.

Education / Experience / Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural design, preferably in the precast/prestressed concrete industry.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software.
  • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software such as Tekla Structures, AutoCAD, and Revit.
  • Strong understanding of building codes and design standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, and PCI.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Structural Engineering for the State of Alaska.
