Position Objective

We have a full-time opportunity for an ambitious and motivated Estimator. As the Estimator, you will be responsible for coordinating cost estimates and bid proposals for the fabrication and erection of structural precast/pre-stressed concrete products in large-scale construction projects.

You will be based at the company’s main office in Pleasant View, TN and will collaborate/report to the Sales Team and Operations Managers.

Essential Primary Functions

  1. Analyze construction plans, specifications and documents using on-screen take-off software or similar, perform detailed and accurate quantity take-offs and identify the materials applicable to our scope of work while determining special requirements. (Must have an uncanny ability to produce accurate estimates from construction documents)
  2. Prepare, review, manage and submit RFI’s, Addenda, Notifications and communicate with clients during bid process.
  3. Assemble accurate, complete and well-organized estimates and proposal documentation in a timely manner
  4. Compare multiple drawings, recognize changes and adjust MSP’s Scope of work accordingly
  5. Effectively manage daily work output, meet bid deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Develop relationships with contractors, vendors and industry professionals
  7. Prepare reports and attend departmental meetings as required
  8. Develop and document standard operating procedures of responsibilities and tasks
  9. Responsible for learning, developing and implementing process efficiencies throughout the Company Departments and streamlining daily tasks
  10. Prepare and present annual Individualized Strategic Plan (ISP)

  • Equally effective when working collaboratively or individually

Preferred Experience & Education

  • College degree preferred; all levels will be considered if mindset is extraordinary
  • Experience working in an office environment with passionate team members
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of financial tools.
  • Experience in Estimation, Sales or Construction Management is a plus but not required.
  • Mastery in computer software such as Microsoft Office Programs, Estimating software such as Bluebeam.

Summary/Objective

The estimator is responsible for developing cost estimates which include recording precast concrete material types and quantities, preparing accurate cost estimates based upon company standards and guidelines.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Reviews construction documents and understands scope of work to bid.
  • Review and analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost and labor estimates for products, projects or services.
  • Preparation of detailed quantity take-offs of construction documents.
  • Inputs take-offs into a computer spreadsheet.
  • Obtains bids from subcontractors.
  • Prepares cost analysis in computer by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead costs incurred in the installation of items.
  • Where predetermined standard(s) are not available, makes an estimate.
    Informs the immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer database.
  • Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
  • Attends departmental meetings as required.
  • Build relationships by leadership and collaboration.
  • Proven ability to monitor projects costs, perform cost analysis, and prepare project reports.
  • A good working knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook and internet applications.


Required Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED diploma and a minimum of 4 to 6 years of related project experience.
• Experience in the field of cost estimation.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.

Preferred Education and Experience
• Experience with estimating software such as Tekla, Revit, AutoCAD, AutoDesk or BIM is a plus.
• College degree preferred.
