The Precast Field Services Superintendent provides on-site supervision and technical management for all precast erection operations.  The Superintendent is accountable for the successful performance and profit of each project.  This is accomplished through:

Leadership

  • Create foundational trust based on the highest integrity and the dignity of every person
  • Lead safety consciousness and actions to achieve company goals and meet industry standards
  • Inspect and provide leadership work in progress to ensure workmanship adheres to quality standards and project specifications
  • Plan, schedule, and direct all field erection activities including personnel, equipment, and subcontractors in the executing of work activities
  • Coordinate phases of construction to avoid delays
  • In coordination with the Project Manager, ensure all labor, materials, and subcontractors are onsite when required
  • Effectively communicate with others, including but not limited to suppliers, customers, and employees

Creation / Development/ Maintenance

  • Develop and manage project schedules and two-week look ahead schedules
  • Accurately submit daily / weekly reporting
  • Review and maintain field set of drawings
  • Work in conjunction with management to prepare personnel forecast to project employment and equipment needs
  • Accountability for maintenance of assigned Company equipment and tools on the project

Financial Controls

  • Manage the project budget and attain or exceed profit goals
  • Monitor labor actual vs. budget on self-performed work

Success of the position is measured by:

  • Project safety; incidents, lost time accidents, regulatory sanctions / fines
  • Project profitability – Project budgets are met or exceeded
  • Projects delivered on time
  • Quality and cost of rework
  • Productivity – Labor cost vs target
  • Customer complaints

To perform this job successfully the employee must have the following:

  • An Associates’ degree in Construction Management and/or equivalent experience
  • 5 -10 years of precast erection, production, handling or steel erection experience; Knowledge of precast production and quality control processes are required.
  • The ability to operate a computer, computer networks, common software and communication devices.
  • The ability to demonstrate a high level of safety/training knowledge
  • The ability to communicate at a high level, both receiving and disseminating information for clear understanding
  • The ability to understand broad direction and then formulate and execute detailed complex plans to meet that direction
  • The ability to make complex judgments in the interest of the company and employees
  • The ability to demonstrate and be considered a leader in company values
  • Duties may also include other related management and engineering activities as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes upcoming production and prepares equipment, fixturing and tooling to ensure a safe, high quality and cost-effective production start-up.
  • Develops project scope, costs, financial justification, and schedule for improvements projects. Gains approval for capital expenditures.
  • Work with internal resources and equipment vendors to design and install new equipment and processes. Reconfigures and upgrades existing equipment to meet the needs of the business.
  • Oversees the installation and start-up of new production processes and equipment.
  • Designs new equipment, fixtures, and detailed drawings in 2D or 3D CAD.
  • Creates plant layouts and updates as built drawings.
  • Develops work instructions and standard work. Some time study work will be required to complete these tasks.
  • Troubleshoots process problems to increase productivity and improve product quality.
  • Participates and champions departmental Kaizen events.
  • Assists the maintenance department in the creation of Preventive Maintenance schedules.
  • Assists the maintenance department in troubleshooting equipment problems and determining root cause and corrective actions.
  • Develops new concrete mix designs to save costs and improve quality. Previous experience in this area is not required. Training will be provided as needed.

Qualifications

  • Technical or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering with 3-5 years or manufacturing plant experience.
  • Proficient in the use of CAD programs. AutoCAD experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Willing to work hands on.
  • Willing to work flexible hours as needed to complete projects.

Position Summary

  • Completes all tasks required to place and finish concrete on concrete wall panels and structural components.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Produces high quality precast concrete panels that meet engineering and PCI specifications.
  • Carries out the daily production plan as communicated by the Bed Lead and / or Plant Manager.
  • Completes tasks related to panel production:
    • Cleans and maintains production beds.
    • Prepares beds for concrete placement.
      • Removes protective plastic, installs chairs, finish cleaning.
    • Directs mixer truck driver and rakes concrete to required depths.
    • Cuts and places insulating foam to drawing specifications from blueprints.
    • Installs mesh and rebar and ties them in.
    • Operates manual concrete vibrators to fill voids and consolidate.
    • Operates power screed.
    • Uses hand trowels as needed.
    • Installs lifting pins and other accessories to blueprint specifications.
    • Final finishes the top of panels.
      • Hand trowel finish edges and around plates.
      • Apply broom finish.
      • Hard trowel finish utilizing power trowel machines.
  • Operates heavy equipment such as forklifts, concrete trucks, front end loaders, back hoes, and telehandlers in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Adheres to all safety rules and Ohio Valley Precast guidelines.
  • Reports ALL accidents to the Plant Manger immediately and completes an incident report.
  • Maintains and improves housekeeping to ensure a safe and productive workplace on an hour by hour, day by day basis – “ Clean As You Go “
  • Completes daily preventive maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Maintains all tools on a daily basis.
  • Keeps continuous improvement in the forefront. Makes suggestions for positive changes without prompting.
  • Demonstrates the company values every day.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Ability to operate power tools safely, accurately, and efficiently:
      • Power Screed
      • Screw Guns
      • Rebar Tie Guns
      • Gasoline Powered Trowel Machines to produce a top-level finish. This includes understanding the correct timing for each step.
  • Ability to make basic math calculations.
  • Ability to use tablets and applicable software.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, cranes, front end loaders, and telehandlers a safe and legal manner.
