The drafting position is part of the job site engineering team and will report to the Project EngineerThe drafter typically assumes responsibility for the administrative and technical aspects of preparing and submitting precast shop drawings. 

Duties include but are not limited to:  Understanding contract plans, Specifications and preparing shop drawings and detailing precast components for various type of structures such as building, bridge, floating structures, piers, wharf, etc.

• 5 to 10 years of experience in preparing shop drawings. 
• Ability to use Auto Cad is required
• Ability to use Tekla is preferred. 
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
• The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment.
• Strong organization/time management skills.
• Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.

Job Description:
•Prepare clear, complete and accurate detailed precast erection shop drawings, mold, and piece drawings from architectural and structural documents.
•Administer and monitor project schedule milestones from Sales hand-off through production, including internal kick-off meetings with engineering, production and mold shop.
•Work closely with customers, vendors, sales, engineering, production, and mold shop to establish and ensure logistics and accuracy of specifications throughout the project cycle.
•Communicate externally with architects, engineers, contractor, and internally with project team and production.
•Work with engineering to design, detail, fabricate and install all repairs, making project site visits as needed.
•Continually strive to improve technical and quality processes throughout project timeline.
•Work with production and quality control to ensure a smooth manufacturing operation.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:
•Associates degree in Engineering, Architecture, Drafting, Construction Technology
•1 year of drafting and project detailing experience.
•Strong understanding of and ability to read and understand blueprints.
•Masonry construction experience or knowledge a plus.
•Strong communication skills; verbal, written and interpersonal.
•Strong mathematical aptitude with ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions.
•Ability to use related equipment, including software programs such as Auto-CAD, Tekla, Revit, Solidworks, Microsoft Word/Excel and Outlook.

We are currently looking for a qualified drafters with experience in AutoCAD with emphasis on structural designs rather than civil at our Precast Group division located in Thompson, Ohio. As a team member your responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

  • Convert client's Architectural and Structural drawing into shop drawing that align with Sidley Precast standards
  • Study and comprehend engineer notes, charts and markups and correctly convey them in Sidley Precast shop drawings
  • Coordinate with all members of drafting team to make sure schedules are met
  • Develop and generate CAD drawings; verify all designs meet structural quality and design standards
  • Work with Sales, Project Manager, Engineer, and Drafting Supervisor to develop complete elevation and shop drawings.
  • Follow guidelines and standards as set by supervisor and Sidley Precast Division Manager
  • Participate in project and design meetings and inform managers of project needs
  • Maintain information/drawings via electronic file management
  • Use problem solving skills to generate workable solutions and resolve complaints
  • Use multi-tasking skills to prioritize multiple concurrent projects

We are seeking applicants with the following qualifications: 

  • Preferred 2 years’ experience using AutoCAD
  • Experience in structural designs
  • Preferred experience with BIM and 3D Modeling
  • Possess the strong detail oriented skills that are needed in the design and production of precast concrete.
  • Ability to communicate in both written and verbal formats of English at a professional business level required.
  • Candidates not already residing in Northeast, OH must be willing to relocate.

Civil/Structural Engineering Draftsman/Detailer

Fort Wayne engineering company is seeking a draftsman/detailer to support civil/structural engineers. Applicants must be able to understand directions and budget time for multiple projects. Experience with AutoCAD is required. Experience with 3D modeling and Revit is desirable.

This job will include the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Preparing structural drawings using conventional drafting techniques
  • Creating detailed drawings of various commercial structures and components
  • Preparing erection drawings and shop tickets for various precast/prestressed concrete structures and components.
  • Conformance to office standards.
  • Planning, organizing and prioritizing assigned responsibilities.


  • Associate of Engineering Drafting and Design or equivalent education and experience
