Plans, designs, and supervises construction, maintenance, and alteration of structures and facilities such as electric, gas and water utilities; telecommunications; highway construction; retaining walls; storm water detention and infiltration; rainwater harvesting; onsite wastewater; sewage applications; agriculture; and landscaping.


  • Leads the design team in structural analysis of Jensen Precast products.
  • Reviews, and if required, seals product developer's work.

Creates user stories, process workflows, and data models to support configuration development.
  • Contributes to structural design methods and philosophies of the engineering department.
  • Performs parametric modeling in CAD or CAE systems to generate product designs. Works in the Product Data Management software (PDM) to develop and support workflows, as well as product structure and bill of material management.
  • Maintains organization of multiple projects and revisions simultaneously. Regularly communicates project status with managers and Jensen Precast branch representatives. Maintains archives of engineering documentation and data for projects.

The Production Engineering Revit Detailer position is a full-time position responsible for the production of precast deliverables including but not limited to erection drawings, piece tickets and hardware shop tickets. This position will use Revit software to achieve a high level of accuracy.

Role and Responsibilities

The Structural Engineer position is responsible for the leadership of the engineering design and detail of both the precast division and the design/build division.  Success includes creative implementation of cost minimizing strategies as well as leadership to improve schedules and field productivity.  This position also utilizes their precast and prestress experience to coordinate closely with the precast production engineering team.  This person sets the standard for structural design capability while mentoring and developing less experienced engineers.  This is accomplished through:

Purpose of Position:

Responsible to provide multi-disciplinary expertise in product manufacturing processes, equipment, systems, process improvements, new equipment start-up supervision of team staff and subcontractors, and project management.   Knowledge in pre-stressed concrete, concrete batching, operations software, construction, or concrete plant equipment is beneficial. Manage production start-up activities and related documentation along with training of co-workers on production best practices.

  • Create RFI’s and work with Project Management to problem solve and provide answers to questions from Architect, GC and EOR about specific details and design of projects.
  • Ensure all details are made to Kerkstra Precast drawing standards.  Assist with continually improving and growing standards to meet industry standards.
  • Mentor Engineer EITs and engineering interns to promote growth and development.
  • Coordinates other trade's requirements including: mechanical, electrical, HVAC,  masonry, steel, and cast in place concrete with requirements for precast products.
  • Provide engineering support to Quality control, plant fabrication and erection functions and processes.
  • Reviews and decides course of action on discrepancy reports.

The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) is accepting applications from students enrolled in structural, architectural, or civil engineering programs for a full-time paid internship to assist PCI staff with important technical projects. This individual will work with the PCI Technical Services team to support the extensive technical workload and will gain a unique experience advancing the institute’s body of knowledge.

Expected responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing engineering calculations for publications
  • Assisting in review and response to technical inquiries
  • Drafting figures and models for various publications
  • Preparing presentations with educational content

Qualified applicants are expected to be through their third year or later of bachelor’s degree curriculum and will have completed at least one course in reinforced concrete design, with prior coursework in prestressed concrete a plus.  Students between bachelor’s and master’s degree programs will be considered but should be planning to continue with their education full time after their internship to be considered.

This position will support staff at PCI headquarters in Chicago, IL; however, highly qualified remote location candidates will be considered and will not need to move.
