Position Summary: The Quality Control Manager is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the quality control team in accordance with the vision and values of the Company. Minimum of seven years of experience in concrete industry, preferably in Precast Production.

Minimum of five years of Quality Assurance/Control experience and in a leadership capacity.

The variety of inspections that we perform for clients provides our inspectors with several opportunities to acquire new skills and certifications, and to grow and advance within the A/E/C Industry. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) monitoring and oversight of construction activities on various project sites;
  • Perform inspection of all construction activities to ensure contractors work conforms to the requirements of the contract documents;
  • Perform onsite sampling and testing of soils, concrete, masonry, asphalt and structural steel to ensure compliance with project plans & specifications;
  • Record field measurements and collect data necessary to ensure dimensions and location of work conform with the contract documents
  • Utilize field testing equipment to determine compliance with project plans, specifications, and industry standards;
  • Review approved plans, specifications, codes and submittals required for performing inspection and testing duties;

Testing procedures and inspections may include conducting field testing and sampling of concrete in accordance with ASTM standard procedures, performing in-place density testing of soils and/or asphalt using testing equipment, assisting with conducting coring operations with concrete and/or asphalt, performing structural masonry inspections, soils sampling and inspection, and steel inspection.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates should possess a HS Diploma/equivalent, as well as relevant prior work experience and/or one of the following certifications/degrees below:
    • American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Construction Special Inspector and/or Concrete Field Testing Technician;
    • Precast Concrete Institute (PCI) Level I and/or Level II;
    • Hot Mix Asphalt Density Testing Inspector/ NETTCP HMA Plant Technician;
    • Nuclear Gauge Safety Certification;
    • International Code Council (ICC) - Masonry, Structural Steel & Bolting, Structural Welding, Fireproofing, and/or Soils, etc.;
    • NICET Construction Materials/Transportation Technology levels Ii to III;
    • AWS Certified Welding Inspector;
    • AS or BS Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Geology, Environmental Science, or similar;
  • Ability to complete OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety and Health Training within a reasonable period of time following commencement of employment;
  • Ability to review and understand industry standards, plans, and specifications and recognize deficiencies;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, clients, contractors, and inspectors regarding specifications and qualification test results;
  • Ability to record project data and complete required field inspection reports and documentation;

  • Regularly check for and obtain up-to-date structural, erection, connection, and bracing plan drawings on issued tablet computer from electronic archiving source or network archive
  • Use surveying equipment to verify layout of gridlines, formwork, vertical members, and other elements of the structure
  • Use tablet computer and PDF drawings to document inspected areas and to designate locations of specific issues/deficiencies
  • Report all deficiencies/non-conformances to designated project engineer, architect, or other party via web-based software
  • Inspect and verify foundation components prior to placement of concrete:
    • Reinforcing clearance, size, spacing, and location
    • Embed type and location
    • Step heights, reinforcing, and locations
    • Locations of blockouts, waterstops, cold joints, etc.
  • Inspect and verify foundation embed type and location after placement of concrete
  • Verify erector’s conformance of Precast Erection Bracing Plan with on-site activities and correct/report as warranted

Position Details, Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • PCI Level II or III Certification
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering field OR Associates Degree in Concrete Technology preferred
  • Excellent communication and documentation capabilities, including the ability to write clear, concise reports while verbally discussing issues on a real-time basis with all provided contact personnel.
  • Capability to use standard office software, printer, scanner and digital camera. Understanding the reports and associated project documentation must be completed in an expeditious manner.

Established in 1952 in Omaha, Nebraska producing septic tanks and parking curbs, today American Concrete Products designs and manufactures a wide variety of quality precast concrete products for the utility, commercial construction, infrastructure and railroad industries. 
 
Summary: The Quality Control Manager directs and coordinates all activities of the Quality Control Department, testing laboratory and QC Personnel. Collaborates with Operations and Plant Managers to ensure that all PCI requirements are met. Teams up with others to optimize production quality and workflow. Demonstrates through action the importance of safety by working with the Plant Safety Coordinator.

• Develop a comprehensive understanding of American Concrete Products, processes and workflow.
• Measure current quality strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for improvement.
• Maintain daily inspections of concrete batching, mixing, handling, placing, consolidating, and finishing.
• Conduct daily inspection and verification of product dimensions, quantity and location of reinforcement and embedded items, forms and mold adequacy/layout.
• Fabricate representative test samples as described by Precast Institute (PCI)
• Create, document and manage all concrete mix designs.
• Conduct inspections of all finished products for conformance as applicable to each specific product and within the limit of acceptable industry standards.
• Document, communicate, and follow-up on required repairs of finished products per PCI Quality Control Standards.
• Prepare, maintain and organize complete QC records for all fabricated products in an efficient and accessible manner.
• Partner with Operations and Plant Managers to eliminate processes that create rework or wasted material. Follows-up on all quality issues to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Lead, coach and develop QC personnel focusing on: skillset, training, development needs and performance management.
 
Education / Experience / Certifications:
• Associates or Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of experience/education (preferably in Engineering, construction management, contracting or building).
• 5-7 years of related experience in pre-cast & or pre-stressed concrete industry (preferred) or relevant quality control management.
• Previous supervisory/management experience required.
• ACI Level I Certification required
• ACI & PCI Level III Certification preferred but not required.
