Summary:

The inspection process includes, but is not limited to, evaluating pieces for dimensional accuracy, required tolerances and aesthetic appearance as well in interpreting piece tickets and production drawings (blueprints).

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs pre-pour inspection of all forms, reinforcement, steel and inserts, in a timely manner to maintain optimized workflow and assists in finding ways to decrease delays and cause for rework.
  • Maintains daily and project production records.
  • Checks and verifies all dimensions of cast-in embeds.
  • Completes daily Quality Control documentation.
  • Inspects all finished product. Documents and follows-up on any precast product that requires patching or rework.
  • Ensures that all precast products are correctly marked.
  • Assists other Quality Control personnel in testing of materials and finished products as required.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining plant and yard safety in accordance with Company Safety Manual and under the direction of the Safety Coordinator.

Keep all testing equipment calibrated and in good working order.  Inspect component materials for compliance with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) specifications. Inspect facility and operation for compliance with their Quality Control (QC) plan and specification requirements. Document and report findings. Offer solutions when objecting to the approach that is proposed. Inspect materials in the field as requested or required during Construction, Maintenance or Design. Provide feedback and technical assistance to field personnel as appropriate. Document and report findings. Perform Independent Assurance evaluations as described in Department procedures and the Federal Aid Policy Guide.  Perform these evaluations in an objective and professional manner.  Document and report findings. Provide materials related technical support to customers as requested.  Provide support in time to meet the customer’s needs. Provide guidance and training to customers. Analyze materials data for contract and procedural compliance. Take timely action to correct any errors in the data.  Actively facilitate the notification of stakeholders of failures or negative trends.

OTHER JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS: Must possess or obtain and maintain CTQP Concrete Field Technician Level 1, Prestressed Concrete Institute I, ACI Self-Consolidation Concrete Testing Technician, ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician, ACPA Precast Concrete Quality School Certification, Construction Math, and Contract Plans Reading. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

All employees are required to follow all Safety and Quality rules and processes to ensure a safe working environment, and the production of high-quality products

Daily:

1. Inspect bed set-up according to shop drawings for proper size and placement of all reinforcement, including strands, plate location, all structural connections

2. Note any nonconforming items and notify proper personnel to bring product into conformance

3. Perform concrete testing: slumps, unit weights, air content, release cylinders, 28-day cylinders

4. Set-up steam clocks to insure proper curing temperature

5. Monitor finishing procedures in finishing shed

6. Inspect final products, note any nonconformance’s and notify the Engineering Department for approval or repair work order. All conforming products receive a green tag, all nonconforming products requiring engineering approval receive a red tag

7. Check red tagged members after they are repaired to ensure that they conform to Engineering’s requirements

8. All nonconformance’s for engineering approval are to be drawn up and submitted in writing

9. Release all beds

10. Identify products with stencil

11. Monitor accuracy of pour data

Summary of Position:

Directs and coordinates the Company’s Quality Control program for documentation, testing, and inspection of components and finished products to ensure conformance with given standards and production shop drawings.  Works closely with plant production to prevent problems from occurring and solve them when they do occur.

Specific Duties / Responsibilities / Functions:

     Pre-Production Phase (15%)

  • Review preliminary samples of concrete mix.
  • Review job specifications.
  • Gather and submit documents to proper jurisdiction for pre-production approval.
  • Involved in pre-production meeting(s) with project management and production staff.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Quality Control Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and managing all quality control systems and processes that adheres to Kiewit Corporate, PCI, and CalTrans standards. While supervising a team of quality control inspectors and technicians this person will ensure a consistent and blemish free quality product that meets established standards, customer Prespecification and production goals.

DISTRICT OVERVIEW
Kiewit’s Northern California District is one of Kiewit’s leading infrastructure districts specializing in various types of work in the heavy civil, power, transportation, and water resource markets. Although most of our work is regionally based in Northern California, we also pursue various projects across the west coast. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare, train and enforce Standard Operations Procedures for all Quality Control activities.
  • Coordinate quality control activities with Plant Manager, Engineers, and Supervisors to ensure production activities maximize product reliability and reduce rework costs
  • Responsible for the accurate filing and certification of all documents required under statutory compliance and client/customer contractual agreements.
  • Investigate and establish a root cause analysis for NCR’s and develop the appropriate corrective actions.
  • Demonstrate experience in leadership, problem-solving, creativity, strategic thinking, fostering cooperation and teamwork.
  • Notify Plant Manager of any discrepancies production personnel may have.
  • Participate in all plant inspections inclusive of management, client and statutory compliance agencies.
  • Inspection, observation and documentation of all operations to ensure specified procedures are followed.
  • Responsible for preparing, qualifying, and submitting all mix designs used, including self-performing and/or coordinating with outside laboratories to perform all required testing. Also for implementing Trial Batches as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
  • DOT, ACI, PCI Level 1 & 2 Certification preferred.

We are currently seeking PCI certified concrete inspectors (certified through the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute) to perform shop inspection for the Northeast, USA.

Requirements:

  • Valid PCI Level II or III certification issued by the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute
  • ACI Certified Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade 1 certification
  • Experience with prestressed concrete inspection, particularly for transportation and bridge projects
  • Access and ability to operate a personal computer utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel, the internet, and email
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Summary:

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Quality Control Inspector performs and documents QC Inspections of all architectural precast concrete products, evaluating pieces for dimensional accuracy, required tolerances and appearance; and assists in interpreting piece tickets for production.

  • Performs pre-pour inspection of all forms, reinforcement, steel and inserts, in a timely manner to maintain optimized work flow and assists in finding ways to decrease delays and cause for rework.
  • Maintains daily and project production records.
  • Checks and verifies all dimensions of cast-in embeds.
  • Completes daily Quality Control documentation.
  • Inspects all finished product. Documents and follows-up on any precast product that requires patching or rework.
  • Ensures that all precast products are correctly marked.
  • Assists other Quality Control personnel as requested.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining plant and yard safety in accordance with the Safety Manual and the direction of the Safety Coordinator.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Ability to read instructions, notices, handbooks, and technical requirements and specifications.
