The position requires knowledge in concrete mix design and testing, employee management, team building skills, recordkeeping, and WordPerfect and Excel computer skills. Position requires high school diploma, minimum 3 years’ experience in the precast industry, current ACI Level 1, and PCI Level I&II inspector certification.

QC Manager Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Daily supervising of 4 QC department employees
    • Lab Tech, Pre-pour/Post-pour Inspectors
  • Plan staffing levels. Work with Human Resources staff to recruit, interview, select, hire.
  • Provide oversight and direction to the employees in the QC department in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.
  • Coach, mentor and develop staff.
  • Empower employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals. Delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback.
  • Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among department.
  • Consciously create a workplace culture that is consistent with the overall organization's and that emphasizes the identified mission, visionguiding principles, and values of the organization.

  • Generate tension reports and inspect/monitor tensioning operations
  • Check cast-in items for proper size and location.
  • Perform daily inspections of batching, mixing, placing, curing, and finishing of all appropriate fresh concrete tests.
  • Daily inspection of stripping operations, including verification of concrete strength requirements.
  • Inspect product following any repairs to ensure the repairs are completed per the approved details and methods.
  • Disposition of non-conforming product, including appropriate documentation
  • Completion of all project documentation and quality control records
  • Final visual marking and/or coding of product to indicate product is approved to load and ship
  • Establish and maintain Quality Systems Manual
  • Perform routine checks of prestressing beds
  • Maintain calibration schedule and records for all equipment used in Quality processes
  • Make color and texture samples for project specifications
  • Review and file material mill certificates for all materials

Quality Control Manager – Illini Precast, LLC

Location - Speed, IN

This role will schedule workloads, provide feedback and interpret and enforce company safety rules while maintaining housekeeping requirements.

The Quality Control Manager facilitates the production of high quality architectural and structural precast concrete products, including inspection, sampling, and testing. Applies experience and sound judgment to ensure all components are manufactured to the highest of standards, and to create a culture among employees on the shop floor that revolves around safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Works closely with the production and engineering departments to prevent issues from occurring and to resolve them when they do occur.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Formulate and maintain quality control objectives complementary to corporate policies and goals.
  • Create and implements inspection criteria and procedures.
  • Coordinate objectives with production procedures in cooperation with others to maximize product reliability and minimize costs.
  • Develop and implement the Quality Management system and practices. Includes creating procedures, job aides, performance metrics and business process communication standards.
  • Create a workflow system for corrective actions which integrates customer feedback and creates accountability to identify and resolve the root causes that result in quality or service issues.
  • Design quality reports and scorecards to provide timely and actionable operating information across the group.
  • Clearly and accurately communicate strategic Quality Assurance 'Leading Practices' and standards with all facility locations.
  • Provide inspection activity for product throughout production cycle.
  • Direct quality control inspections and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products.
  • Design and implement quality control training programs to key personnel in conjunction with managers.

  • Prepare plant for Precast Concrete Institute (PCI) Audit every 6 months.

Pre-Production Phase

  • Involved in pre-production meetings with engineering staff.
  • Produce concrete samples and participate in casting of mock-up panel.
  • Reviews orders-to-proceed and erection drawings of upcoming jobs, noting any unusual details, communicating information to production teams.
  • Submit concrete mix designs.


Production Phase

  • Manage quality control activity with QC team and coordinates daily responsibilities which include:
  • Fresh Concrete Tests
  • Pre-pour Inspections
  • Post-pour Inspections
  • Cured Concrete Testing
  • Embed Inspection
  • Aggregate and Cement Receiving
  • Track sample fabrication
  • Review stressing calculations
  • Inspect panels in the yard, noting appearance and overall quality, making sure needed repairs are made.
  • Work with production daily on improving overall quality by communicating observations.
  • Provide support to Engineering Department as required.
  • Review drawings of pieces to be produced daily.
  • Keep records of all materials received and panels produced and produces quality control reports.
  • Respond to customer or engineering requests.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Quality Control
  • Advanced math skills
  • Ability to read and interpret Building Code requirements
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret architectural and engineering documents
  • PCI Level I&II certification required
  • PCI Level III certification preferred
  • ACI Field Testing Technician Grade 1
  • Solid understanding of plant practices and quality control procedures
  • Ability to identify and solve color/texture/pouring issues
  • Ability to identify and participate in the solution for repeat casting problems
  • Ability to diagnose and remedy concrete strength or consistency problems

Physical Requirements

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Quality Control Inspector performs and documents QC Inspections of all architectural precast concrete products, evaluating pieces for dimensional accuracy, required tolerances and appearance; and assists in interpreting piece tickets for production.

Job Title:  Field Superintendent

Direct and manage all field operations with overall responsibilities for production, maintenance, quality, project erection, and other field-related activities.


  • Implement health, safety and environmental procedures on site in accordance with legislation and company policy to ensure safety of all workers and protection of public. Must possess knowledge of all OSHA and EPA Regulations as they apply to construction field operations and knowledge of building codes, construction standards and good practices. 
  • Identify changes in project scope and assist Project Manager with pricing changes. 
  • Assist Project Manager in establishing working relationship with owners, architects, engineers and subcontractors. 
  • Assist the Project Manager in updating the project schedule to ensure project milestones are achieved; Implement corrective action where necessary to catch up and meet key milestone dates. 
  • Supervise all field personnel to achieve completion of project on schedule to conform to original plans and specifications.
  • Plan and organize project and crews; Coordination of sub-contractors, including follow up on site attendance issues, review of sub-contracted work for quality and completeness, and conflict resolution with sub-contractors. 
  • Provide training and development assistance for carpenters and laborers as needed.
  • Responsible for field documentation such as daily logs, reviewing extra work orders, recording timecards, conducting daily safety inspections and other required reports.
  • Able to review and implement construction drawing and specifications 
  • Order materials and schedules inspections as necessary
  • Experienced in managing, on time and on budget
