PCI develops, maintains and disseminates the Body of Knowledge for the precast concrete structures industry through councils, committees, subcommittees, and task groups. These four PCI Group types are made up of hundreds of volunteers representing all major stakeholders in the industry, collectively investing more than 30,000 hours annually.

Technical Activities Council

Purpose: To serve as the authority on technical issues and content for PCI. Mission: To be informed of, review, and make recommendations to the Board of Directors for action on all technical activities of the institute. To establish the procedures necessary to execute all Board-approved tasks assigned to TAC. To develop and implement programs of technical activities necessary to carry out PCI purposes and meet PCI goals. To implement appropriate technical projects requested by others.

Architectural Precast Concrete Committee

Purpose: To serve as the authority on technical issues and content for PCI. Mission: To update and maintain MNL-122. To maintain the body of knowledge for architectural precast concrete. To provide support for broader use of architectural precast concrete.

BIM Committee

Purpose: To serve as the authority on technical issues and content for PCI. Mission: To promote Building Information Modeling (BIM) for the advancement of the precast/prestressed concrete industry. To identify and report how the latest technologies utilizing BIM data are being implemented for improvement of industry processes. To provide knowledge and feedback that will aid in the development of BIM technology.

Blast Resistance and Structural Integrity Committee

Purpose: To serve as the authority on technical issues and content related to blast resistance and structural integrity activity. Mission: To update and maintain MNL-141. To enhance existing and develop new technical solutions for the use of precast concrete structures and components that will resist blast loading and progressive collapse, serving stakeholders such as the US government, the petrochemical industry, and private companies.

Building Code Committee

Purpose: To serve as the authority on technical issues and content related to building codes. Mission: To support the strategic plan by reviewing documents and monitoring the activities of major code-writing bodies such as ACI, ASCE, ICC, and others. Where appropriate, to initiate code change proposals which promote the advantageous use of precast concrete.

Concrete Materials Technology Committee

Purpose: To serve as the authority on technical issues and content related to concrete materials technology. Mission: To inform users and producers of precast, prestressed concrete about emerging and existing concrete materials technology. To advance the body of knowledge by proposing research topics, education, and development of guidelines and standards related to concrete materials technology.

Design Standard Committee

Purpose: To develop and maintain a design specification. Mission: The committee will oversee the development of standard documents at the technical committee level. The committee will recommend research topics to the Research and Development Council that will assist PCI with the acceptance and adoption of standards by model codes for existing or new precast, prestressed design methods.

Fire Committee

Purpose: To serve as the authority on technical issues and content related to fire activity. Mission: To update and maintain PCI-124. To develop performance-based fire design methodology. To coordinate PCI-124 with the International Building Code. To gather and disseminate information which will be of assistance in obtaining realistic fire requirements, fire ratings, and insurance rates for precast concrete.

FRP Composites Committee

Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete Panels Committee

Industry Handbook Committee

Purpose: To serve as the authority on technical issues and content related to the PCI Design Handbook. Mission: To publish a comprehensive 9th Edition PCI Design Handbook by December 2023 following the 2021 International Building Code, including reference standards ACI 318-19 and ASCE 7-16, by critically reviewing the previous 8th Edition PCI Design Handbook and the existing PCI body of knowledge, identifying industry needs and topics that require further development and encouraging evaluation of these topics through cooperation with other technical committees, and by contributing to research proposals and need statements to fill gaps in the current body of knowledge

Joint and Connection Design Committee

Purpose: To serve as the authority on technical issues and content related to joints and connection design. Mission: To develop and maintain the design methodology for precast concrete connections, joints, and joint regions. To coordinate the combination of ACI 318, AISC 360, AWS, and material supplier requirements and recommendations with precast concrete preferred practice into a coherent and consistent design protocol in support of the PCI Design Specification. To provide design examples for illustrating precast concrete connection design methodology in support of the PCI Design Handbook and other PCI technical documents.

Journal Awards Committee

Purpose: To select award papers in the categories of construction/production/erection technology and design, design/ research/construction, state-of-the-art precast and prestressed concrete, and young authors (40 years of age or younger) who write outstanding PCI Journal papers. Mission: To select award papers that have been published in PCI Journal from July 1 of the preceding year to June 30 of the current year.

Journal Editorial Advisory Committee

Purpose: To serve as the authority on technical issues and content related to prestressing reinforcement. Mission: To review, evaluate, and report on properties, test procedures, and performance of prestressing reinforcement, including stress-strain characteristics, relaxation, corrosion, bond, and fatigue. To advise the industry on the proper use of prestressing reinforcement in the design and construction of precast, prestressed concrete structures, including handling, storing, tensioning, safe practices, and acceptance testing. To monitor and assist with changes to ASTM specifications pertaining to prestressing reinforcement.
