Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop a short, medium and long-term plan for increasing building sales to new clients and execute the described plans.

  • Identify likely blanket sales vehicles (e.g., GSA, Forest Service, state contracts, COG, County Governments, etc.) which can be put into place
  • Put these vehicles into place and identify how to track sales made under these vehicles
  • Develop/execute a plan to increase sales made under the above identified blanket sales vehicles.

Forterra is seeking a qualified full-time Estimator for its Salt Lake City, UT location.  The Estimator is responsible for project bids along with generating shop drawings and layouts for precast concrete projects. This position supports all aspects of a safe working environment by following organizational policies, processes, procedures and OSHA requirements.  Forterra Structural Precast is the premier structural and architectural precast concrete manufacturer in Utah, Idaho, and surrounding states. 

Essential Functions:

  • Safety
    • Comply with all safety regulations, and adhere to company OSHA safety guidelines at all times.  Promote a safe work environment for all team members, vendors and customers.

    • Convert competing systems to precast.  Distinguish between high-value and low-value conversion opportunities.  Demonstrate ability to fill in the blanks without grossly overshooting.
    • Estimate a project with no documents.
      • Demonstrate the ability to envision and quantify a qualified estimate
    • Write proposals and qualifying proposal terms.
    • Maintain estimate log and competition tracking current, update estimating log, and track competition pricing.
    • Follow established FSP procedures plan.
      • Describe and follow each step in the FSP estimating process.
  • Estimate costs within -2% to +5% of actual. Monthly job closings and provide updates.
  • Research outside engineering and erection pricing on all projects along with quotes of other significant material cost items.
  • Ensure all job specifications and instructions to bidders are thoroughly reviewed prior to estimating a project. Require salesmen to obtain and also review such if they exist before estimating job
  • Assist Sales team with booking budgeted revenue goals.
  • Familiar with production and erection procedures and practices.
  • Regular, timely attendance to meet organizational needs in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Any other miscellaneous tasks assigned by management at any given time and in any given area.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Associates degree in construction management, drafting, or similar program
  • Three to five years of experience in estimating costs for construction; preferably with architectural and structural precast products
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and database systems. Drafting software experience is a plus (ACAD and Blue beam).

Creates user stories, process workflows, and data models to support configuration development.
  • Contributes to structural design methods and philosophies of the engineering department.
  • Performs parametric modeling in CAD or CAE systems to generate product designs. Works in the Product Data Management software (PDM) to develop and support workflows, as well as product structure and bill of material management.
  • Maintains organization of multiple projects and revisions simultaneously. Regularly communicates project status with managers and Jensen Precast branch representatives. Maintains archives of engineering documentation and data for projects.

Qualifications

  • Preferred Education: Specialized post-graduate courses
  • Preferred Experience: Between 2 and 5 years

The Precast Field Services Superintendent provides on-site supervision and technical management for all precast erection operations.  The Superintendent is accountable for the successful performance and profit of each project.  This is accomplished through:

Leadership
