Proj Overview

Preserving the natural beauty of the Adirondack Park is always a priority when considering options for upgrading highways to meet today's safety requirements. The NYSDOT worked in concert with Fort Miller, the Adirondack Park Agency and the local communities to develop the precast concrete parapet barrier shown above. A custom form liner and hand-stained concrete played an important role in simulating the original stone wall that lined Rte. 86 through the Wilmington Notch near Lake Placid, New York.

The precast concrete parapet wall in this location blends nicely with the surrounding stone in the retaining wall supporting Rte. 86 and in the river bed.

The details of the original stone wall were carefully considered when developing the custom form liner and stain colors used in the finished precast parapet.
