Project Overview
Administrators at the new state-of-the-art Fayetteville Elementary School created an aggressive 12-month schedule for the new building to allow students to make the transition with the school year. It holds 600 students and serves as a prototype-design, with four kindergarten, 20 standard, and four special-education classrooms, along with 10 small group-instruction rooms, a music room and an art room.
The architect’s designed the building using Smart School Design criteria, which emphasize qualities of sustainable, high-performance design and fiscally responsibility.
Precast Solution
The tight construction schedule necessitated the use of precast concrete hollow-core plank for floor framing on the second level. The planks could be produced off-site and erected very quickly once the structural framing was in place. It also provided maximum loading capacity, and fit the Smart School Design criteria.
The planks used recycled materials, offered little construction waste, and were manufactured locally with local materials, minimizing transportation costs. |
