Project Overview
Mariano’s grocery at
16th and Clark in Chicago is a complete three
story precast structure with the first level retail and two upper levels of
parking.
Challenges included preventing water intrusion
into the store from the garage and determining the garage ramping in the tight
space. The garage was designed with jump ramps to accommodate the rapid
inclines in the compact building footprint. To separate retail from parking,
the floor structure above the retail area includes untopped double tees, a
rubber membrane, insulation, and then a traffic coating.
Precast Solution
Exterior precast panels are load
bearing with cast in thin brick. The exterior panels utilize white cement, tint
additive, acid etch and two colors of utility-size thin brick. An intricate
pattern of two brick colors dominates the exterior and gives the effect of
depth to the panels.
The interior consists of precast
columns, beams, stair/elevator shafts, double tees, precast stairs, and solid
slabs. |
