Project Overview
The 120,000-square-foot Residence Inn by Marriott near Fenway Park in Boston is part of the area's urban-development plan. The $60-milllion, eight-story building features 175 guest rooms plus 50 parking spaces below ground, a fitness center, meeting rooms, indoor rooftop swimming pool that opens up to a green rooftop terrace.
Completing the project on a tight urban site on a fast schedule were key challenges that were overcome in part by the use of precast concrete hollowcore planks.
Precast Solution
The project features a steel frame into which the precast hollowcore planks were installed. The steel beams have notches cut into them to allow for grouting to seal the panel to the girder. This design provides rapid construction, which one of the key reasons the hollowcore slabs were chosen for the project. Once drawings were approved, hollowcore was installed just two weeks later.
