This three-part webinar series, Toward Lower-Carbon Precast Concrete, will educate PCI producer members on sustainability principles and practical mix innovations that reduce embodied carbon while maintaining or improving performance.
The second webinar, Cement Materials: Low Carbon Cement and Alternatives, will further advance on the topics discussed in part one, as well as review cement types and carbon intensities; innovations in blended cements, Portland-limestone cement (PLC), and future alternatives; Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs), such as fly ash, slag, silica fume, and natural pozzolans; and case studies of carbon reduction with comparable performance.
By the end of this three-part webinar series, participants will be able to:
- Differentiate between traditional cement and emerging low-carbon alternatives, including blended cements and PLC.
- Identify commonly used SCMs and their environmental and performance characteristics in precast concrete applications.
- Evaluate the potential benefits and limitations of substituting cementitious materials in terms of carbon reduction, availability, and technical performance.
- Recognize how mix innovation with cement materials supports compliance with EPD and sustainability documentation requirements.
- Apply insights from recent case studies to initiate or improve cementitious material strategies at their own precast concrete facilities.
