Abstract

The purpose of this background and discussion article is to identify and describe the significant changes of the PCI Design Handbook: Precast and Prestressed Concrete, Ninth Edition, from the eighth edition. This is the eighth iteration of the background and discussion, each following publication of a newly updated handbook, starting with the second edition. Each prior article also appeared in the PCI Journal. The PCI Design Handbook: Precast and Prestressed Concrete is the flagship publication for PCI and the premier resource for precast and prestressed concrete design. Each edition of the PCI Design Handbook reflects updates to the relevant codes and standards, the most recent research completed on precast and prestressed concrete, current industry practice, and the experience of designers of precast and prestressed concrete structures.
