Proj Overview

Renovations and an addition to the Strauss Performing Arts Center at the University of Nebraska Omaha were completed in 2021. Along with the addition of a new canopy, updates to recital hall classrooms, the dedicated piano laboratory and the recording studio will promote the growth of the music school for years to come.

Coreslab Structures (Omaha) worked with HDR to improve the look of the main entrance that was originally built in 1973. In addition to eight new concrete benches that were placed near the main entrance, Coreslab Structures (Omaha) also manufactured a new canopy for the entrance. The cantilevered canopy panels are supported by four aesthetically pleasing columns that were sandblasted to match the building’s existing cast-in-place grey concrete exterior finish. Particular consideration was needed structurally because the canopy panels are bearing on the existing building.
