PROJECT OVERVIEW
Manchester Middle School was originally built in the 1960s and hadn’t had a major renovation in 35 years. The new school accommodates 1,100 students in a 21st Century learning environment. Chesterfield residents had a hand in what the new school would look like by voting on a specific design through an online survey.
PRECAST SOLUTION
Tindall provided solid architectural precast wall panels with a thin brick finish. Insulation was applied post-erection. Tindall’s Petersburg VA plant has long production lines designed specifically for casting wall panels. Precast wall panels in general are a superior solution to conventional cavity wall construction which relies on a complex system installed by multiple trades. Due to the intensive coordination required, these type of wall systems also open the door for errors with vital construction details. Precast concrete wall panels create a barrier wall system that can easily incorporate interior insulation and offers a wide array of aesthetic finishes to coordinate with existing structures or custom designs that are unachievable with most conventional materials.
Tindall manufactured and erected 64 solid architectural precast concrete panels with totaling 59,700 sq. ft. The architectural wall panels were manufactured with thin brick, pigmented concrete with sandblasted or acid-washed finish for a modern aesthetic. |
