To reduce congestion and accidents on Verona Road, along US Highway 18/151, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation developed a multi-year project which expanded several highways and reconstructed the Williamsburg Way and McKee Road interchanges.
County Materials Corporation manufactured and delivered 66 prestressed concrete bridge girders, measuring 95 to109 feet-long, for two interchange reconfigurations. Prestressed concrete girders were specified for their inherently long service life and low life cycle cost. Additionally, County Materials’ enhanced production capacity and local availability ensured the project’s timely completion and provided greater flexibility with girder deliveries.
Originally, the contractor scheduled two days for the delivery of 22 prestressed girders for the Williamsburg Way interchange; however, incoming inclement weather conditions prompted crews to reschedule the delivery for a single day with only one day’s notice.
Within one hour after receiving the request to deliver all 22 girders the next day, County Materials confirmed they could make it happen – and they did.
The McKee Road interchange reconstruction project was ready for delivery of 44 prestressed bridge girders a few months later. The girders were delivered within four days, keeping the project on track for its originally scheduled completion. |
