Project Overview
The Brown Deer School District, as part of a
consolidation of High School and Middle School, was in need of a new field
house. The new 42,000 square foot structure seats 2,000 and includes a 4
station gym, 4 practice courts, pole vault and long jump areas, a
fitness center,160 meter running track, batting cages, and
climbing wall.
Too often field houses look like large
boxes. For the Brown Deer project, the design team embraced the unique design
possibilities offered with precast to “dress up” the box, according to
architect Scott Davis.
Precast Solution
Inspired by rays of sunlight that are part of the
school’s logo, colorful patterns are featured in architectural, insulated
precast panels, which alternate with structural panels on the exterior. Panels
are staggered in and out further breaking the box and allowing slots of glass
which bring in daylight.
The flexible and fluid nature of
precast was the perfect enclosure solution, says Davis. |
