Proj Overview

Project Overview

This unique project, located in Chicago’s trendy River North neighborhood, consists of three distinct hotels under one roof – a Hyatt Place, a Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, and an Aloft Hotel with a total of 664 rooms.

To preserve their identity, each hotel has its own exterior design and separate entrance, but all three operations share amenities, public spaces and service functions.

Precast Solution

Precast concrete architectural panels clad the Fairfield and Hyatt hotels, glass clads the Aloft. Precast components include spandrels, wall panels, and columns covers. All precast panels were acid etched. Each of these hotels features two face mixes in the panels – providing light and dark horizontal bands on the Fairfield, light vertical columns and dark horizontal elements on the Hyatt.

The project earned LEED-NC Silver Certification. A 38% reduction in energy use was achieved, according to HOK’s Colin Rohlfing, “by combining a high-performance [exterior] envelope with efficient mechanical systems.”
