Proj Overview

Project Overview

A 250,000 sf expansion of the Chicago Premium Outlets in Aurora, Illinois, added 30 new or expanded stores as a fast-track effort to provide some high profile merchants.
The 9-year-old existing mall utilized precast concrete. The owners have been very pleased with the aesthetics and performance of the current stores. As a result, precast was chosen for the expansion.

The $110 million project also features an outdoor plaza with a bright blue pond, fire pits, art installations, guest services area, two restaurants and 2,200 additional parking spaces.

Precast Solution

Eight-inch-thick insulated precast sandwich panels (356 R-10 panels totaling over 75,000 sf) were erected in just over one month, demonstrating how precast allows owners to bring their business to the consumer in a timely manner. Most of the precast panels are 12 ft wide, some 15 ft wide, and numerous narrower to suit the building layout. Panels are typically 20 to 25 ft tall, with plain grey, steel-form smooth texture.
