Project Overview
The second building in an office campus, the Village Center Station III project is located adjacent to a light rail station providing opportunity for occupants to leave their cars at home. The plaza area provides a welcoming environment to the public and offers access to nearby retail and restaurants.
The Village Center project presented some unique challenges for the team that included a non-rectilinear building footprint, 15’-0 cantilevered load-bearing spandrels and radius spandrels on both the office building and parking garage. Additionally, the project was completed with the use of two cranes.
Competing against a steel structure option in the preconstruction phase of the project, the precast option proved to be the better choice with regard to both cost and schedule. Having a single source core and shell subcontractor allowed 550,000 SF (2,675 PCS) of precast to be erected in six months (three months faster than if it had been a steel structure). |
