Description:

  1. Precast Concrete Mix Design
Good control of concrete mix design is crucial to producing quality-precast structures. It is important for precast industry professionals, production facility technical and production personnel, to understanding concrete mix design. The first course is intended to train someone with a basic understanding of concrete so that they can create a concrete mix design meeting their company’s needs, or to evaluate the suitability of a mix for specific applications. This course is specific to needs of the Precast / Prestressed Concrete industry. We will explore the mathematics and chemistry behind creating an absolute volume mix design, and how the proper raw materials, sequencing, and production processes can yield high quality concrete consistently. Also, we will troubleshoot common mistakes in typical precast mix designs and how to avoid them, as well as adjust concrete mixes to compensate for negative external influences. SCC and Architectural concrete will also be covered.
  2. Placing and vibration of flowable concrete

Mixes more workable than conventional concrete but not quite SCC. This session will cover how to select the proper vibrators and how to operate them correctly. The program covers internal and external vibrators, vibrating screeds and more. We will have a discussion of best practices for placing various precast members (i.e. Double Tees, Architectural panels).

  3. Top 5 non-conformances
A presentation developed by Ross Bryan Assoc. auditors of the top 5 non-conformances found during the previous year’s certified plant audits will be given. This session will allow you to get some feedback and suggestions for addressing audit non-conformances that you need help with.
  4. Exceptional Precast Practices - Continuous Improvement in Best Practices- The PCI Quality Enhancement Committee has developed a self-assessment and the process steps that provide both the roadmap, and the milestones for continuous improvement.  Here are the seven sections that it covers: Productivity, Personnel, Safety, Field operations, Sales and marketing, Sustainable plant, and Concrete. We will discuss how it works, and how your company can get the most out of it.
