Project Overview
Riddle Memorial Hospital undertook a campus-wide master planning initiative to address patient parking demands while enhancing the overall environment of its Media, Pennsylvania campus. Tim Haahs & Associates worked with the hospital to produce a comprehensive plan encompassing full architectural documentation, structural engineering, lighting design, and MEP services. The resulting three-level, 440-space precast/prestressed concrete parking structure maximizes available land through effective column spacing and ideal floor-to-floor heights, connecting directly to the medical facility via a pedestrian bridge.
Precast Solution
Sustainability was a defining priority of the project. The design team incorporated fly ash concrete, regionally sourced materials, and Low-E glazing in the prominent glass stair towers to reduce the structure's environmental footprint. These measures, combined with the inherent ecoSmart characteristics of precast/prestressed concrete, contributed LEED points to the hospital campus. The exterior treatment — cast-in thin brick cladding, architecturally finished shearwalls presenting a colonnade appearance, and the transparent glass stair towers — creates a facility that enhances the campus aesthetic while clearly communicating its civic and institutional purpose. |
