Facing a tight urban site, an ambitious schedule, and the goal of unifying a historic 1939 campus with modern programming and security needs, the project team turned to a Design-Build, total precast structural system to solve for structure, enclosure, and architecture simultaneously. This session walks attendees through how precast components were used to eliminate perimeter framing, reduce foundation demands on a site with expansive soils, and recreate a curved, cantilevered entrance inspired by the original historic building. Attendees will learn how Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordinated fabrication and erection sequencing, how custom formliners and urethane liners achieved complex architectural finishes, and how an integrated structural/architectural precast approach compressed the construction timeline while reducing on-site congestion on a constrained urban campus.
