Rhode Island School of Design Students Visit Coreslab Structures (CONN) Inc.

Students from the Rhode Island School of Design Precast Concrete studio visited Coreslab Structures (CONN) Inc. on April 9th to see production of precast/prestressed concrete products.

The studio focused on the design and execution of 1:1 architectural objects using the material of precast concrete. The students will progress from research on the technical methods of fabrication, to castings in scale models typical in plaster, and full size castings with concrete. The course was led by Assistant Professor Brett Schneider, Department of Architecture.

Through the support of the PCI Foundation precast concrete elements and later as a location for pouring of the full scale components comprising the students’ design projects. Additional technical workshops with students working as group will also be included to introduce general methods working with concrete and formwork hands on.

Coreslab Plant Tour

Plant Tour/Lectures Available to All

PCINE producer members host plant tours at their manufacturing facilities for design professionals and college students. Participants are offered the opportunity to see a plant in full operation during business hours. Continuing education credit (AIA Learning Units and PDH's) can be awarded and tours may also include a presentation for additional credit. Participants learn how precast concrete is manufactured and finished, see the steps taken to ensure quality products, and gain a better understanding of how the product works within the design and construction process.

Plant tours must be scheduled in advance. Lunch may be included. Safety equipment (hard hats and safety glasses) will be provided, and participants should wear closed toe shoes and long pants. To contact PCINE for assistance in arranging a tour at a PCI Certified member facility, use our online form link below.
