Webinar: Architectural Precast Best Practices

Precast concrete is the perfect medium for architecture. The use of color, form, and texture allows for unlimited creativity that evokes the beautiful natural expression of the material. The aesthetic appearance of architectural precast concrete is infinite. With the choice of aggregates, form liners, pigments, and textures the architect can achieve a wide variety of design objectives. This course will focus on the best ways to a successful architectural precast job. Precast concrete is a high performance material that integrates easily with other systems and inherently provides the versatility, efficiency, and resiliency needed to meet the multi-hazard requirements and long-term demands of high performance structures

Precast provides an incredible array of aesthetics options, whether your project needs to blend-in with the surrounding environment, or stand-out from the crowd. Precast concrete can combine continuous insulation, a continuous air-barrier and vapor retarder, efficiently all into one panel. Precast concrete inherently provides a high degree of quality and durability including multi-hazard protection from storms, flying debris, high winds, and can be designed to protect against explosions, and earthquakes.

Precast/prestressed concrete can contribute to sustainable design in many ways. It is a versatile and durable material, produced in a factory by highly trained personnel with virtually no waste, under stringent quality control measures. Precast panels can be quickly erected on the jobsite with minimal disruption to the site and precast's thermal mass can save energy and increase comfort.

Learning Objective 1:
Learn about PCI's Architectural Certification and how to specify the most appropriate PCI architectural certification categories for the production and field erection of various types of architectural precast concrete components.

Learning Objective 2:
Explore case studies of Architectural Precast buildings to learn how Precast solves the problem of needing multiple products and trades to create a façade with different elements such as a base wall, window surrounds, coining, beltlines, and pediments. All those elements and more can be created in a single precast concrete panel, eliminating the need for frequent expansion joints and slip joints to account for differential movement, as well as flashing and other moisture management components.

Learning Objective 3:
Discover how precast concrete can not only provide the aesthetic versatility needed to create iconic to traditional finishes and shapes for enclosures; but also provide the continuous insulation, continuous air barrier, and vapor barrier all in the same system.

Learning Objective 4:
Discover the PCI Architectural Precast resources available to design team, engineers, owners, etc.
