Overview

PCI's Online Academy offers a series of continuing education modules tailored for engineering practitioners and students. Each academy features weekly sessions spanning 90 minutes, conducted over four to six weeks, with participants earning continuing education credits upon completion. These sessions are led by professors and industry authorities specializing in precast concrete design, leveraging their extensive expertise to optimize the learning experience. No prior experience in precast concrete is necessary for participants, as the program's technical content is designed to benefit individuals involved in or aspiring to engage with the design of such structures, including licensed engineers, EITs, professors, as well as graduate and undergraduate students.

PCI Online Academy: Precast Concrete Connections Design

April 7 – May 19, 2026

Connections are fundamental to all buildings and construction no matter what material is used. The purpose of a connection is to transfer loads, restrain movement, and/or to provide stability to a component or an entire structure. As such, the design of connections is one of the most important aspects in the design and engineering of precast concrete structures. This class will cover the variety of design and performance criteria connections are required to meet, including strength, ductility, volume change accommodation, durability, fire resistance, constructability, tolerances, and seismic requirements. Typical precast concrete connection details will be reviewed and discussed in detail.
