Leaving the “I” in BIM to Streamline Precast Production, Inventory Control, and Shipping

Register for Thursday, October 22, 10:00 a.m. CDT

Over the last decade, BIM has changed the way precast buildings are engineered and detailed. What it hasn’t yet touched are the problems of managing production, quality assurance, storage, and shipping for precast fabricators.

Existing ERP and information systems are not well suited to the precast industry, and require extensive and expensive customization to function.

What the industry needs is a solution that integrates data and information from existing engineering and detailing processes with systems that help fabricators manage the casting, shipping, and inventory control processes of a precast plant.

In this webinar, we will describe how information stored in any 3D BIM model can be used to:

  • Visualize precast pieces and associate them with shop tickets
  • Manage and optimize production based on existing physical plant and workforce
  • Streamline and improve pre- and post-casting quality checks
  • Track and manage inventory using GPS- and QR-capable mobile application
  • Manage element loading, erection, and site operations using a mobile application

Presenters: David Loughery, Business Development Manager; Brandon Botts & Dan Istvan, SVP Technical Operations

Investment in Safety Webinar

Register for Thursday, October 29, 10:00 a.m. CDT

The goal of a safety program should be continuous improvement of the work system, at any cost, to minimize sources of risk and loss. In this case study, we discuss a solution that addresses repetitive movements, labor intensive and hazardous environment (i.e. heavy equipment, multiple team members, loud noise levels, heavy products) that requires work to be completed under a time sensitive schedule.

Case study will include

  • Safety challenges
  • Severity and frequency of Workers’ Compensation claims
  • Importance of Claims Reporting
  • Overcoming challenges with insurance placement and development of a safety culture

Speakers:

Bill Hoole, Bill has been an insurance professional since 2012. He holds multiple professional designations including Certified Director of Safety and a certification in underwriting (CPCU). Bill’s approaches risk management in 3 lanes: risk you can control, risk you transfer on paper and risk you finance. Prior to working at AssuredPartners Bill started his insurance career owning a personal lines agency. Upon moving up to the commercial lines part of the industry, Bill worked at Lockton Companies as a large market broker after working with middle market construction accounts at Esser Hayes Insurance Group.

Kyle Cochran, Kyle Cochran has over 13 years of experience working in all areas of manufacturing, construction, and service industries. Kyle’s primary objective with his clients is to ensure that safety and production work together, and risk and safety are addressed as one. Before joining Vista Safety Consulting, Kyle worked in the insurance industry as a loss control specialist and consultant, on both the agency and insurance carrier sides. Prior to that, Kyle worked as a safety supervisor for a large manufacturer in Northern Illinois, and also as a consultant, working with various contractors in the heavy construction and contracting industries across the United States. Kyle is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, Greater Chicago Chapter, and is a certified First Aid/CPR/AED instructor. Kyle graduated from Indiana State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management.

Register for Thursday, November 19, 2:00 p.m. CST

For communities to thrive, the buildings and structures that make up that community must be able to stand up to challenges presented by climate change, severe weather, fire, earthquakes, floods and other natural and human-caused disasters. This presentation will delve into ways precast concrete can contribute to buildings that protect lives, lifestyles and livelihoods.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the concept of resiliency and discuss its important in designing for the future.
  • Discuss ways in which resilient design and sustainable design intersect.
  • Learn about ways that precast concrete can be used in designs that protect occupants and contribute to community health and resilience.
