Project Overview

The new Payne County Jail is adjacent to the existing courthouse in order to facilitate the expeditious transfer of the inmates from their cell to the courtroom. The architectural goal was to simulate and complement the architecture of the existing adjacent courthouse and county administrative building. The resultant design placed all the jail administrative functions, along with an interior sally port, on the ground floor, with the traditional inmate cells, dayrooms, exercise spaces, and mechanical space housed in the four stories above this administrative area.

Precast Solution

One of the biggest advantages of using precast concrete in this structure was the ability to combine structural, mechanical, electrical, and insulating capability within the architectural load-bearing exterior wall panels, which contributed significantly to the reduced project budget.

Precast concrete architectural columns were placed throughout the exterior to match the round column architecture of the courthouse. Similarly, the upper-level panels incorporated thin-set brick that was selected to match the color of the brick in the adjacent existing buildings.
