How Precast Builds-Building Envelopes and Facades

This presentation addresses what high performance building envelopes are as well as key elements to their performance. It will discuss how to use precast concrete wall systems to meet the latest concrete code requirements such as continuous insulation and air barriers, moisture management, thermal mass effect and effective R values. This session will also discuss resilience such as high winds and earthquakes in order to protect life and fulfill its intended purpose.
- Describe the three basic types of precast concrete envelope systems
- Describe new envelope code requirements
- Explain thermal mass and how to use it to create more energy efficient buildings
- Discuss moisture management methodologies
Presenter: Joe Bunkers, Gage Brothers
Joe Bunkers has served in various roles over the past 20 years at Gage Brothers, ranging from drafter technician, quality control manager and precast concrete sales, to his current role as Vice President of Preconstruction. Bunkers provides guidance and direction for all construction bids as well as projects in the preconstruction phase. He excels at determining how Gage Brothers can best distinguish itself from the competition. Bunkers’ determination and results-oriented accountability allows him to deliver quality work and exceed client's expectations. To ensure quality for Gage Brothers customers, Bunkers has achieved Quality Control Personnel Certification Level III from the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI). He is an active member of the Leadership PCI Committee and Past Chair of PCI's Architectural Precast Concrete Services Committee.
