Proj Overview

Project Overview

When officials in Glenview, Ill., decided to renovate and expand their village hall and police station, they were concerned the new space would not harmonize with the existing 10-year-old building. It featured brick and block masonry accented with limestone bands.

Precast Solution

Designers specified precast concrete architectural panels with embedded thin brick as the cladding.

In addition to its aesthetic versatility, precast was chosen because designers could pre-order components and have them fabricated while site work was underway, shortening the construction time. The panels also provided a more economical format.

The original brick was located and used as half-bricks embedded in the panels. The weathered limestone banding was matched in precast pieces keying the tone to the amount of weathering at each point.

The addition connects to the existing building through a few structural modifications that created access points, allowing interiors to flow as smoothly as exteriors.
