Lombard Architectural Precast Products Company (LAPPCO) has been a premier producer of architectural precast products in the Chicagoland area for over 50 years. LAPPCO, a PCI certified precast plant, is a family owned company with many long term employees working in our facility.

Position Summary:

The quality control technician’s responsibilities are to maintain the LAPPCO standard of quality and utilize the LAPPCO plant manual

Essential Responsibilities:

-Inspecting and verifying the accuracy of dimensions and condition of molds

-Verifying batching, mixing, material handling, placing, consolidating, curing, product handling and storage procedures

-Verifying the proper fabrication and placement of reinforcement, and quantity and location of cast-in items

-Inspecting tensioning operations to ensure conformance with specified procedures

-Preparing or evaluating mix designs

-Taking representative test samples and performing required tests

-Inspecting finished products for conformance with shop drawings, approved samples, and project requirements; confirm products are in compliance before they are shipped to the project site

-Preparing and maintain complete quality control records


-PCI Plant Quality Control Technician Level I and Level II certified (or the ability to get certified within 6 months of date of hire).

-Precast concrete related experience is required

-Ability to prepare and maintain documentation on a computer

-Ability to read and comprehend erection drawings and fabrication drawings

-Conversant in Spanish a plus

Job Description:

CDS Manufacturing Inc. is looking for a motivated PCI level 2 certified technician (currently certified or willing to train) for a position in our quality control program at our Gretna, FL production facility.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform all required prestress/precast operations including but not limited to:
    • Strand tensioning operations
    • Pre and post pour inspections
    • Testing of plastic properties of concrete
    • Testing of compressive strength of concrete cylinders
    • Maintain all pertinent documentation of above listed actions.
  • Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment and be prepared to develop higher levels of responsibility and certification.


  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in construction industry desired, but not a requirement
  • Must be able to be read or be trained to read shop and erection drawings
  • Must be willing and able to become certified in all ACI/PCI required certifications that are not currently held. Certification training and testing will be paid for by the company
  • Ability to work outside in all conditions

Certification Goals (Currently held or attained within 6 Months of Employment):

  • ACI Testing Technician
  • ACI Strength Testing Technician
  • PCI Level 1
  • PCI Level 2

Provide quality control of precast concrete products manufactured in accordance to PCI specifications.   Pre-Pour and Post-Pour activities are a vital process step in the dimensional control of these manufactured components.   This position supports all aspects of a safe working environment by promoting continuous improvement of plant processes and procedures. Communication and coordination with other team members is critical to this role.  Knowledge in concrete manufacturing, is essential to the success of this position. 

Qualifications/ Requirements:

  • One to five plus years’ experience in a similar or related field
  • ACI Level 1 Certification is preferred but not mandatory
  • PCI Level 1 Certification is preferred but not mandatory
  • Knowledge of the production process in the concrete industry (or similar manufacturing environment).
  • Ability to apply problem-solving techniques.
  • Must have good attention to detail and be safety oriented.
  • Verbal and written communication skills understandable by the crew and the plant supervision.
  • Motivated to work the project through completion.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse work environment with all levels of employees
  • Limited computer experience required
  • Basic to Intermediate mathematics skills.
  • Commitment to building a positive culture.
  • Ability to apply effective time management and self-management skills.
