PROJECT OVERVIEW
This project rebuilt and improved Interstate 95 between the Bridge Street and Betsy Ross Bridge interchanges in Philadelphia. PennDOT improved the Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue Interchange, as well as widened and reconstructed I-95 and its bridges from Wheatsheaf Lane to Margaret Street. This 0.8 mile section of I-95 runs through the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange.
PRECAST SOLUTION
As part of the Betsy Ross Interchange improvements, Northeast Prestressed Products supplied a series of prestressed concrete bulb-tee beams that formed the primary structural components for multiple bridge spans. Manufactured in NPP’s PCI-certified facility, the beams were produced under stringent quality standards to ensure exceptional strength, durability, and dimensional precision.
Utilizing precast prestressed concrete allowed for faster installation and reduced on-site labor, helping maintain project schedules in a high-traffic environment. The bulb-tee design provided efficient load distribution and long-span capability, resulting in a resilient and long-lasting bridge solution. Through its expertise in prestressed fabrication and reliable delivery, NPP played a critical role in enhancing the safety and longevity of this major transportation corridor. This solution is a key example of prestressed concrete’s inherent versatility within the context of infrastructure and transportation solutions.
