Mix Design Levers and Decision Points

This free non-CEU, PCI member’s only webinar is part three of the Toward Lower-Carbon Precast Concrete webinar series.

This three-part webinar series, Toward Lower-Carbon Precast Concrete, will educate PCI producer members on sustainability principles and practical mix innovations that reduce embodied carbon while maintaining or improving performance.

The final webinar, Mix Design Levers and Decision Points, will focus on the role of admixtures in achieving lower-carbon mixes; the environmental tradeoffs in material choices; chemical strategies to address local material and environmental challenges; and provide strategies for mix-optimization and material substitution.

By the end of this three-part webinar series, participants will be able to:

  1. Differentiate between traditional cement and emerging low-carbon alternatives, including blended cements and PLC.
  2. Identify commonly used SCMs and their environmental and performance characteristics in precast concrete applications.
  3. Evaluate the potential benefits and limitations of substituting cementitious materials in terms of carbon reduction, availability, and technical performance.
  4. Recognize how mix innovation with cement materials supports compliance with EPD and sustainability documentation requirements.
  5. Apply insights from recent case studies to initiate or improve cementitious material strategies at their own precast concrete facilities.
