PCI Journal – New Masthead, New Design

A new look for PCIJOURNAL debuted in January. Under the guidance of its new editor-in-chief, Emily Lorenz, the JOURNAL is in the midst of a redesign that will help to make the publication’s respected, high-quality content more accessible and user-friendly.

PCI began a new trend to include special industry guest authors to discuss high-profile topics. The first of these authors was Paul Todd of Todd Architecture on the subject of Total Precast Solutions. The winter issue will feature Carl Walker talking about design-bid-build for possible inclusion. This is part of our effort to move away from straight case-studies and more into topic-based articles that appeal more to the design community and showcase a number of projects rather than just one.

Ascent’s online presence will change with the launch of the new PCI Web site. This new incarnation of Ascent online will still include additional photos and information to supplement articles in each issue. It will also include an archive of past issues and the ability to search articles by topic.

Begun in 2005 as the Building for Life Binder Program, this Architectural Binder will showcase the comprehensive benefits of Precast in the language and visual style of PCI’s new brand direction. The binder is designed to be a critical tool for architects and is planned for wide distribution beginning in mid-2006.

This binder will serve as a resource for architects, providing essential background information about using precast and serving as a primer to those who are unfamiliar with what the product can do. An array of topics will be covered, utilizing PCI’s wealth of existing materials as background. The binder format allows updates to be added periodically.

A prototype chapter has been developed by consultant and architect Peter Szego in conjunction with engineer and consultant Helm Wilden. The template chapter and design was reviewed by the Marketing Committee at the Fall Convention.

The PCI board will be reviewing the business plan for this binder at the Winter Meeting in Puerto Vallarta.
