Background

The AIA Lunch and Learn program (sometimes called the Box Lunch program), registered through AIA by PCI National, continues to be a very successful program, reaching architects and engineers that we may miss with other promotional/educational programs. We need to continue our efforts to assure that PCI programs, and others registered by producers through PCI, adhere to the AIA requirements for their educational programs. The risk of not doing so is that if any of our programs are audited by AIA and violate their requirements, PCI would be at risk for our good standing as a registered provider status with AIA and along with that goes the benefits of be awarding AIA/CES continuing education units.

We continue the process of strengthening our program offerings and we will be sending out updated presentations and programs as 2007 progresses. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the PCI Director of Education.

There are 5 AIA documents available on this web page, all updated for 2007. Please follow the directions of use for each of these documents as described below.

2007 AIA Quality Commitment Statement:

AIA wants to verify that the educational credits they award to their members come from well thought out educational opportunities and not product sales calls. You are free to discuss your specific products before and after the educational session, but do not present specific products during the educational program. Also, AIA does not claim to endorse any product from any producer, so please be sure to have slide #2 in your presentations (see directions on the PowerPoint below).

  1. Please print out the 2007 AIA Quality Commitment Statement
  2. Print your name at the top (you’ll see the blank field)
  3. Read and sign at the bottom
  4. Fax or mail it to the Director of Education at PCI Headquarters in Chicago

2007 FormB:

This is the sign-in sheet for presenters. Update the highlighted sections before each seminar.

  1. Use this form to collect names of attendees
  2. Write or type your name (whoever is sponsoring the event) in the first line so that we know who gave the presentation if the cover sheet is separated from the Form B list)
  3. Remind attendees that credit is tied to our being able to read their names (so please type or print legibly)
  4. Fax or mail the completed form to PCI, attention Director of Education within 2 days of your event. This form is NOT to be sent directly to the AIA as per directions on the form itself (we need to do that here at PCI).

2007 PCI AIA-CES certificate template

Certificates should be available to participants as they exit your session. You must use the certificate template provided - DO NOT use your own certificate template, as we have already been cited for a certificate violation. Please replace the yellow highlighted sections in this document with your program information and distribute them as participants leave. Be sure to print enough copies in advance to give each participant their own certificate. The PCI national office cannot print certificates for individuals after a session has been offered.

2007 AIA Powerpoint Template:

This PowerPoint presentation includes 3 required slides for AIA. You may use your branded templates, but your company/regional logo may only appear on the first and last slides of your entire presentation. All three slides in this PowerPoint template are required for any AIA presentation.

  1. The first slide in this presentation must go immediately after your opening slide (as slide #2). It may not be altered except for branded backgrounds. Your logo may not appear on this slide.
  2. The second slide in this presentation must go next (as slide #3). Write up the learning objectives of your presentation and email these to the PCI Director of Education a couple weeks in advance of your Lunch and Learn program. We’ll work together to assure the learning objectives satisfy AIA standards.
  3. The final slide in the template must come last in your presentation. You may alter this slide to include your logo and any other company information you wish. Be sure to include this slide, as it is a required slide, but feel free to alter it as you see fit.

Rules on Product Discussion and Logo Appearance:

AIA has very strict rules on their educational materials - these include any presentation where you award AIA/CES continuing education units (or learning units). Please do what you can to adhere to their rules:

  1. You may discuss your products before and after the presentation, but not during. Any presentation awarding AIA/CES learning units cannot discuss specific company products during the presentation.
  2. You may hand out/discuss PCI manuals and handouts during the educational presentation, as these are not company-specific.
  3. You may hand out/discuss your company materials before or after the educational presentation.
  4. Your logo may appear on the first and last slides, but not in-between. It may not appear anywhere during the educational portion of the presentation.

Do not feel alone as you are preparing and updating your programs. If you would like any assistance with this process, please do not hesitate to call or send an e-mail to the PCI Director of Education. We have a wonderful Lunch and Learn program here, and together we’ll do everything we can to see that it remains in good standing.

Thank you for your time and efforts. Expect new and revised program announcements as 2007 progresses.
