Proj Overview

As part of the pavement replacement project on the West end of the Lincoln Tunnel in New Jersey, The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey specified precast pavement slabs at the entrance to the two Northern tubes. The contractor proposed the Super-Slab® System to meet this precast requirement. A total of 54 slabs, 8,285sf, was replaced in three locations during 5-weekend closures, proving Super-Slab® to be viable and extremely effective.

Precast concrete Super-Slabs® were placed directly upon a precisely graded (within 1/8th inch) dense graded subbase material. Standard 1.5-in diameter dowels provide load transfer on all sides of each slab. Precast concrete slabs were typically set at the rate of 6 to 8 slabs per hour once the grading was completed. This project was completed using single plane slabs.
